Our client, Rethinking Economics for Africa (REFA) is a developing research and institutional initiative focused on strengthening how economic knowledge is produced, taught and applied across African contexts. The programme works with universities, policy institutions and community partners to develop research, create practical tools and support new forms of economic learning and engagement. REFA combines research, communication and institutional coordination to build long-term, contextually grounded economic thinking.

- Our client in the Education and Research industry is seeking a candidate with strong intellectual curiosity, meticulous organizational abilities, and the capacity for independent work in a hybrid, non-office environment.
- The Research Assistant/Associate will support the research, coordination and institutional development activities of the project report and academic manuscripts.
- The role involves research, writing, documentation, communication and structured project support. The work requires intellectual curiosity, strong writing skills, careful organisation and the ability to work independently.
- The successful candidate will contribute to research tasks, draft project documents, coordinate with partners and advisors, and represent the programme in selected engagements in and outside the country.
Responsibilities :
- Support data collection and basic quantitative tasks using Excel and similar tools (competent quantitative skills highly desirable, or strong willingness to learn).
- Conduct literature and policy research and produce clear analytical notes, briefs and summaries.
- Draft project documents including charters, agreements, memos, meeting notes, dossiers and basic grant materials.
- Coordinate with UK and Nigerian partners, including the project legal advisor, and follow up on agreed actions.
- Map and engage institutional stakeholders, arrange meetings and represent the programme in Abuja when required.
- Support communication tasks, including short web updates and simple project communication outputs.
- Maintain organized project records, correspondence, schedules and supporting documentation (including SLAs).
- Support basic quantitative tasks using Excel or similar tools, including simple tables and data preparation.
- Provide logistical and coordination support for meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagements.

- First degree in Law (LLB).
- Experience in public speaking or stakeholder communication.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong organisation and time-management abilities.
- Confidence in engaging with institutions and external partners.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing tasks.
- Based in Abuja with ability to attend in-person engagements.
- Some experience with Excel, Stata, R, ATLAS.ti or qualitative software.
- Prior exposure to research administration or grant writing.
